Personnel, with no prior military service, receive basic military training in the wear and appearance of their uniform, military structure and ranking system, military chain of command, rendering proper honors and respect to those appointed over them, etc.

Tennessee State Guard personnel receive the same Military OccupationSpecialty (MOS) training, in the field of Military Police, and other fields, as regular National Guard personnel.

Emergency management is one of the main missions, of the Tennessee State Guard. Because of this, all Tennessee State Guard personnel are required to complete many emergency management training courses, offered by FEMA. These classes include:

Prior Service individuals are only required to take IS-26 to join the TNSG.

Non-priors will need to take IS-26 also to join and once sworn in will need to do all the below and will have six months to do so.
